A large part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range is in Almeria province. The spectacular Alpujarra region makes up a large part of this area. A new motorway links these towns and Almeria´s airport - bringing them within an hours drive. Travelling southeast from Guadix to Almería nestling in the natural corridor between the Sierra de Filabres and Sierra Nevada lies Fiñana and part of its area is within the Sierra Nevada Natural Parque, which is one of Europes natural paradises; rich in flora, fauna and scenery.

The Eastern Alpujarra of Almeria province is quite a contrast to the Granada side; the landscape is amazingly different, more arid, but with many areas of green fertile land due to the abundance of water.

Fiñana
Although it has grown and become more modern through the influence of the road that travels from Almería to Granada, Finaña still preserves the traces of its Moorish origin: its flat roofs on the white Moorish houses, the Moorish castle remains, the Mudejar church built on the site of a mosque and its narrow zigzag streets.

Escúllar
Escúllar is a small village situated behind the Sierra de Baza, next to the river that shares its name and near the Sierra de Los Filabres. It belongs to the municipality of Las Tres Marias, within the Nacimiento area and lies in the corridor that joins the province of Almeria to the Marquesado del Zenete.

Ocaña is situated next to the Rio Nacimiento; it belongs to the municipal area of Las Tres Villas together with Doña María.

Nacimiento pueblo is where the source of the river of the same name rises and is used to irrigate the fertile agricultural land that is abundant with grapes.

To the north east is Gergal, a village with a romantic rural setting and Calar Alto in the Sierra de Filabres where a series of high powered telescope have been installed to take advantage of the crystalline air.

Andarax Valley
The Rio Andarax river valley rises steadily from Alhama de Almeria several hundred metres through rapidly changing scenery, ever more lush and moutainous. There are over eighteen Alpujarreñan villages in the valley , each distinct, almost all are beautiful. "Upstream" the principal are Alicun, Illar, Ragun, Canyajar, Padules, Fondon, Beires and the source can be found at Laujar de Andarax. This is the only area where grapes for wine are produced in the whole province. In Laujar de Andarax there is a thriving wine producing industry organised within a cooperative and wine is being exported to ther regions in Spain and to Europe.

Some of the area is included in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park, bound at the north with the Marquesado de la Zenete, to the east the Santa fé de Mondújar and Gádor, to the south Almería and the Mediterranean and to the west with villages of Ugíjar, Turón and Albuñol.

There is easy access to the Costa Almería through Berja with the development of an excellent main road to Almería town and airport.
